Default My schedule shows all tasks as critical no matter how much float they have

I have created a small schedule in Project 2007 that has 71 lines. I created it without assigning resources but I have used predecessors to define the critical path. Virtually every task shows critical even though several have weeks of float available. I have tried to simplify the predecessor links by making them all "Finish to Start" and the constraint types to "As soon as possible" but to no avail. Every task shows critical bar style in the Gantt chart. What am I doing wrong?

If your tasks have ASAP constraints and F to S relationships, they will all be critical. If you add the "Total Slack" field to a view, do you see zero for all tasks? If Total Slack (Float) is greater than zero, check your definition of critical tasks in Tools > Options, Calculation.

Julie:
I added "Total Slack" field (new field to me) but all the calculated values are large negative numbers (???). The duration of my project is May 5 thru September 12, 2014, a total of 127 calendar days and the float calculates as -288 days! Can I p.m. a copy of my schedule to you?

Negative total slack means that you have most likely a deadline you are missing, or a constraint you have chosen to ignore.

Filter the task list using the filter "Tasks with Deadlines". To remove the deadline, double click on the task to show the Task Information dialog, click the advanced tab and remove the deadline date (click, drag, & delete).

Julie:
That did it! Thanks so much. I have always used Constraint Type: Must Finish On for my "Project Complete" or "Specified Completion" task. I inadvertently clicked the down arrow next to the Deadline: text box and it inserted todays date by default. I didn't even notice it. Problem solved. After 14 years I'm still learning this software ;P

Glad to have helped and thanks for the feedback. I suggest a Finish no later than constraint instead of a MFO. It would be good to finish early - yes?
