Default I didn't save a baseline

Hi all

I didn't save a baseline in MS Project 2010 before I entered actual progress last week!

If I save one today and then enter this weeks progress will that be ok?

Also, do I need to set the status date to today before I enter any progress?

Thanks

Jo

If you save a baseline after tracking - the tracked data will be copied into the baseline fields -- so you will miss any variance against plan for those tasks.

If you need variance information (which most of us do), save either a full baseline now (before entering other progress) or a partial baseline if you don't have the fully developed plan.

I hope this helps

Julie

Hi Julie

Yes I need to look at variance. Will set a full baseline now.

Presume I need to set the status date (after setting the baseline) to today's date, and then enter the progress this afternoon?

Thanks for you're help Julie

You're welcome. You would want to set the status date if you are using the Update Project command and tracking a large number of tasks in that way. The status date is also helpful to move incomplete work from the past forward to the status date.

I hope this helps.
