Default The powerpoint icon on the task bar hides pptx files in the recent files list

When I right click the Powerpoint icon in the start menu, on the desktop or in file explorer the correct recent files list is shown from the MRU. Also, the correct list is shown when I click the Office icon at the top left of the screen from within the application. However, when I right click the icon on the task bar it will not display any pptx files, only ppt files. Is there any way to overcome this?
