Smile Brush Colour Funtion in PowerPoint 2013

Hello - I am trying to use the Brush colour function in Powerpoint to make Karaoke-type slides (lyrics that change with music) but I've noticed that the Brush effect adds a few seconds on at the end of each animation. Can anyone advise how to remove this?

Thanks
Rita

Hi John,
I have two sentences per slide, in one text box. I select the text box (so the animation affects all the text in box). Then I animate using the brush effect, and select timing (presets are very slow, slow. Medium, fast and very fast). When you play the animation, it colours letter by letter but then hangs at the end, which makes it difficult to have the slides transition based on the audio. Even when I set the transition time, the animation time seems to over-ride the transition settings.

Thanks for your help!!
Rita

The animation time always takes precedence over transition times. That is animations always complete before the transition takes place.

The timing for brush animation though is especially stupid. If you have animate by letter ON the default delay is set to 4% which is always wrong!

Not easy to explain. If the timing is set to say 15 seconds (You can type your own time in if you double click the entry in "Animation Pane") obviously you want it to take 15 seconds and it won't. The you need to set the delay between letters to match the number of letters. (I know crazy)

So if there are 20 letters set to 5%, 100 letters 1%.

Hope that makes sense.

You will probably find it easier to use font color change BTW!

Goodness!! Sounds like they haven't thought this one through! I hope it's made easier in the upgrades. I saw the font colour animation effect as well. It's not as great as the brush colour but it is easier to configure. Thanks for the advice. I'll try your suggestion and see how it works. Thanks again! Rita

Hi John,

Sorry to bother you again. I've tried your suggestion but it still doesn't work. The colouring finishes and it adds an equal amount of time on the animation effect before moving on to the next sequence of words. So, for example, my animation effect takes 5 seconds to complete, then it hangs for 5 more seconds before moving on to the next animation sequence.

You can see it in the animation pane next to the animated item: the rectangular box is half filled in orange, then a equal portion white and it runs through that before transitioning to the next animation on the same slide.

Any idea why?
Thanks
Rita

Sadly you are correct it seems to be near impossible to get the timings correct.

Oh well, back to Font Colour animation!
Is there any place we can report a bug to Microsoft?

Thanks anyway! Rita
