Default PPT Inserting Pictures Problem

First post here so Hello people...

Ok I have been working on a presentation, I have several slides i made and have inserted pictures into place holders (I believe that is what they are called). All of the pictures I have edited in Photo Shop to be 500 pixels in width at 72dpi. Now all of the pictures that I inserted were "forced to fit" the image place holder. I closed PPT to work on the presentation later.
I open it up today and continue. The first slide I make i do exactly the same thing and resize the pic to a 500 pixel width. I save the edited photo and go to insert it into the place holder only now the place holder edges crop my photo.

I have tried to make the photo smaller than the place holder, this still crops the picture. I have closed the program and tried again thinking that it might have stored a setting when the file was first posted.

Question is: How do I get the insert to show the whole photo. How do I make the picture fit into the window.

Yes I did try the fit and fill functions of the crop tab didn't help.
