Default How do I get the page numbers to appear on every slide?

Hi all, and thanks in advance for your help!

In PowerPt 2010, I go to my Slide Master view and I insert my page number box/placeholder in the right bottom corner. It looks like this:
<#> of 10. I type "of 10" to show how many slides are in the presentation.

What I've learned is that putting that page number box on the first slide master doesn't make it appear on all the other master slide formats (title and content, 2-column, etc). So, I would copy and paste my number box onto the right-hand corner of each of these slide formats, then go back to my Normal view and do Insert>HeaderFooter>check the slide numbers box>apply to all. This method doesn't always work, but it has worked perfectly before. Right now I get my slide numbers to appear on just the 2-column formatted slides even though I put the number box on EVERY single master slide.

(1) What is going on? Can someone please explain to me simply how to get my slide numbers on each slide?

Other questions I wonder about:

(2) What causes my "footers" box under the Slide Master tab to go gray?

(3) Is it just me, or have other people had to take out the page numbers and then reinsert them so that your change is displayed? I've experienced this odd thing too.

(4) Why don't the page numbers appear on all of the master slides but when I insert an image in the footer, for example, to the first master slide, it appears across all the other master slide formats?

THANK YOU, and have a great day! Jessie

I hate the new slide numbers!

Try this though:

AFTER pasting on to all master layouts.

In normal view
:

INSERT > Headers and Footers

Tick Slide Number and Apply to all
