Need help: Error 554 Relay Access Denied
Okay, my Outlook has been functioning fine, no problems until this morning. I haven't changed any configuration in the email accounts, or anything like that. I run Outlook 2010 in Windows 7 64bit. Starting this morning, when I try to send an email TO ANYBODY, I get a bounceback message saying: Quote:
I'm now in a situation where I cannot send ANY email, and I can't find anything online that might help me diagnose this problem. Any help is appreciated. |

If you click on the FROM button when you're responding to a message does it list your default e-mail account? What kind of account is this? POP3? IMAP? Hotmail? Exchange? Something else? Does this happen even if you start Outlook in Safe Mode? (hold down CTRL while you click the icon) See if this helps: http://www.officeforlawyers.com/outlook/tsol.htm#safe

Okay, to answer your questions.
Yes, the behavior is the same in safe mode. I don't see a From button when replying or sending, as I only have one email account configured. The email account is a pop3 account. I use a cable modem, and the email address is attached to my cable account. For the record, we get cable TV fine, I'm able to surf using browsers, and I'm even able to RECEIVE email. I just can't send any. I read the link, and didn't see anything that helped. Oh, and as an addendum, I can send messages to MYSELF and receive them just fine. Not sure what's going on, here. |

Okay, I seem to have solved the problem for now.
In checking my account settings, I noticed that the outgoing mail was NOT set to authenticate. It had been working that way for the better part of a year, but I figured I'd give it a try. Since I turned on authentication for outgoing mail, my emails are getting through. I'll keep an eye on it, but this problem may be solved. |

Likely permissions based at your ISP. Triple-check your settings, especially the settings that say "Outgoing Mail Requires Authentication". You may also have to configure Outlook to log into the incoming server before it sends. You'll probably want to contact your ISP and ask them about it - they may have changed something on their side.
