Default contacts display inconsistently

When composing a new email and I click on the "To" button, on the listing under the "Name" column some contacts are listed lastname, firstname and others firstname, lastname even though all my contacts are filed lastname, firstname. I have compared a number of contacts and cannot determine why this is.

The Outlook contact options should have a Names and filing section to alter the way contacts are displayed and filed. to access this options go to:

Tools > Options > Contact options > Names and filing.

Hope this helps.
