I have a client that is using an Outlook Exchange Server account. He also has a POP 3 account setup in the same Outlook. He wants to no longer use the Exchange Server account. When I click on the Account in the setup screen to delete it I get the Error message that the account can not be deleted and I need to start a new data base and it gives direction on how to do this.

What is the best to do this with out loosing his Contacts etc.?

You can create a new profile (Control panel | Mail | Profiles) and set it as the default one. The new profile will be empty - no messages, no contacts. You can view the old messages and contacts them by switching back to the old profile.

Let me clarify the problem. This client is using a Laptop and at work he is connected to his Domain and uses Exchange server 2003 for his e-mail. At home and on the road he uses a POP 3 account that is his other e-mail provider. I know very confusing but as we all know this is what goes on in the e-mail world.

Here is what he wants. He no longer wants to use the Exchange Account. He just wants to use the POP 3 accounts only. He wants to keep the e-mail etc. from the Exchange account.

This is what I want to do. I can go into account setup and right click on the exchange account and select Delete. A warning comes up saying “this account can no be Deleted”. It also directs me to first make a new data base then delete the account.

I tested this procedure on a different Laptop just to see want happens as I do not want to loose this guy’s data and when it was completed all the e-mails were gone. Not Good.

So, can anyone suggest a better way to do this? I think exporting the data may be the way to go.

Import/export is usually not recommended in Outlook, which caused so many problems. You can make a copy of the pst file from the old profile and open it in the new one.

The good thing about using a new profile is that it won't mess up your existing data, if you don't get the result you want, you can delete it and create another profile.

I'm sure there are some other ways to achieve what you want.
