Just need to know what method to bring pst back into outlook to see contacts again ?





Here is the full picture.

I had need to restore PC to an Acronis backup (perfect clone) of C drive made a few weeks ago 20Apr2019. Before I do so I am aware that I need to backup my .pst files then bring those back in after the PC reverts to the acronis state.
They are at C:\users\myname\MyDocuments\Outlook Files I copy paste them to a usb HDD and verify the copy.
I have two email addresses lets call them aaaaa@blueyonder.co.uk and me@aaaaa.demon.co.uk
In outlook accounts I have a default account name of me@aaaaa.demon.co.uk and another also called me@aaaaa.demon.co.uk(1)


the second one is for the demon address, the first is in fact for the blueyonder address, someone at Virgin set these up ! Both are Pop3.



In my backup of the pst files made today just before reinstating acronis I have :-
me@aaaaa.demon.co.uk - me.pst 15GB 30/05/2019

me@aaaaa.demon.co.uk(1) - me.pst 265kb 30/05/2019
aaaaa@blueyonder.co.uk - me.pst 265kb 30/05/2019

I unplugged PC from modem to stop any emails coming in, launched outlook and went file and got to the import option, browsed to the 15Gb and selected the account name me@aaaaa.demon.co.uk - me and saw the inbox populate with emails right up to now. I then did the same for the test@test selecting test@test destination, in came items though that I didnt recognise as being in that little test account.


I went to address book and it said not found, it was empty. I tried for the 15Gb and choosing the contacts subfolder and imported that to the me@aaaaa,demon.co.uk - me but still no addresses.


I see there is also a subfolder called suggested contacts or some such wording, I see that wording atop the empty address panel, maybe its that I need. try that still no joy.


I compare usb HD pst backup to that I now have on C drive after the pst imports and see 15Gb is 28Gb and 3Gb is 8Gb. Thats not right at all.


Decide to close outlook, delete the pst files from the C drive location, copy paste them to there from usb HDD. launch Outlook, see emails up to 30may but still no addresses.


if my contacts are in the 15gb then why doesnt outlook show them ?


if I go control panel > email I have two accounts, but one is aaaaa@blueyonder.co.uk and the other me@aaaaa.demon.co.uk

I dont like the idea of having to choose a destination for each pst I select using the import option. I would rather just put the pst files where they lived just prior the 20apr2019 backup and let Outlook pick what it made from there, but having now done that I have no address book (contacts)

I have an Acronis backup made 29may2019 so could restore PC to the current working outlook all but one day and start again and do the backup differently.


How should I have brought in the copy of the pst files on the usb HDD I made on 30may2019 to bring the outlook from 20apr2019 up to date ?

I have yet to try for an email send, I dont want to pull in emails and render my pst backup 30may out of date. Do I need to nuke the accounts and recreate them to get them to see the pst files ? From where do I do this ? Hopefully there is a less intense way. Why isnt Outlook simple, email restore is always scary after a revert to backup, or even transfer to another new PC !
