Outlook 365 - Moving .pst Question
I am moving to a new Surface Pro 6 computer. My personal Outlook files on my old computer are contained in a very large (14GB) pst file. I am also using IMAP for my email which is now in a new ost file on the new computer.
I don't need the information in the pst file on a regular basis, but do need it periodically. Is there some way to simply preserve the file and use it as needed rather than import it into the new Outlook program? I really don't want to take up the space on the Surface's SSD which is only 128GB. I do have a 256GB microSD card in the Surface and could put the pst file on there if it would work and if Outlook would keep it there so it doesn't take up space on the SSD. Lastly, is there some way to put the pst file on OneDrive and have the computer think it is on the local drive and access it as needed? Any suggestions? Thanks. |

Have you tried reducing the size of your pst file?
Did you download mail to your pst file to make room on your mail server?

In theory at least (as I have no experience of the foibles of the Surface) it should be possible to store the PST file wherever you have space for it that will always be available and OPEN it from there rather than IMPORT it. You can thus access it and then close it again when you have finished with it.
File > Open and Export > Open Outlook Data File. I don't use One Drive, but I think it works via a local folder n the hard drive, so I don't see how that would help you reduce space. I am pretty sure you cannot simply access the web folder to add the PST stored there from Outlook.

OneDrive allows you to set it up so the file remains only in the cloud and a "shadow" notation is made in the file structure of the local drive so that when the file is needed it is retrieved but remains in the cloud, thus saving space on the local drive.
I'll try this with the OPEN command in Outlook and see if it works. Thanks. |

I have yet to try to open the pst file. Do you know if after I Open the old pst file, there is a way to "Close" the file? I don't see such an option.
Or, after it is Opened, will it Close automatically when Outlook is closed? Thanks. |
