Default Outlook 2010 problem on new 64-bit PC

I bought new 64-bit PC, Windows 10 Home, and transferred over outlook.pst (size 1.4GB) from my old 32-bit PC.
I installed Outlook 2010, and imported pst. I selected “do not import duplicates” (seems obvious), but then I had to select "Import items to current folder" or "same folder in my email address".
I chose latter, because I want my emails copied over into same folders, especially Inbox ie the same Inbox where new emails come in, not the one under "Personal Folders" or "Outlook Data File" where new emails aren't downloaded.

When I tried, I got an error saying:
The items in the "top of personal folders" cannot be imported or exported...
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Instead of 'importing' the PST file. OPEN it. Then make it the default.

Thanks. I assume you mean File/Open/"Open Outlook Data File", certainly much faster than Import.

But some problems:
Also, it leaves me with 3 Inboxes, under:
-"Outlook Data File"
-"Personal Folders" (I would prefer to accept emails here, along with other emails I had in Inbox on old PC)
-my email address (this is only Inbox that accepts emails)

Also, how do I set Outlook Data File as Default?
The only default I can see is email account is "mail" and that is set as default.

Also, I created a test email, which I sent to myself, and it isn't in either Sent Items.

Also, my Address Book is empty. Doesn't "Open Outlook Data File" also open Address Book settings in pst?

File > Account Settings > E-Mail > Change Folder. Set each account to use your 'old' PST file.
File > Account Settings > Data Files - set your 'old' file as the default.
You should then be able to close any other, now unwanted, PST file from the 'Folders' pane.

Thanks very much for reply.
But not much luck:
- File > Account Settings > E-Mail > Change ... but not sure what happens now.
Here I have my user name and email address and password etc.
Am I to change my email address to my old pst name (ie outlook.pst)?
I thought email addresses were supposed to have a @

- File > Account Settings > Data Files
I changed "Outlook Data File" from being default, to "Personal Folders" being default (it would not allow me to set my email address as Default).
It didn't fix emails not going to Inbox under "Personal Folders"... and my Address Book is still empty.

File > Account Settings > E-Mail > Change FOLDER - it's the button at the bottom of the dialog. If it doesn't appear, click the Data Files tab and then click the E-Mail tab.

This opens the available folder tree in Outlook. Select the Inbox of the account you want to use to receive the e-mails.

Thanks for your reply.
I can't get "Change Folder" to appear, either in Mail, or via Data File then Mail.
So I exited Outlook, removed my profile, then deleted all the PST files in 3 folders on C: (there was only ever 1 pst on my old 32-bit PC), then ran Control Panel, MS-Office Repair, restored backup of my pst, reloaded Outlook, entered new profile, and opened (not imported) my old pst.
Then checked for "Change Folder" but not there.

Did you setup your accounts as POP? IMAP and Exchange accounts as far as I am aware cannot share folders, for the main reason that the files are stored on the server and not locally.

Thanks it worked.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2010, then
-Outlook / File / Email-Accounts /New
-Then I selected “Manual configure server settings” not default “Email account”
and it worked using POP3.
I also googled and found out how to export/import Address Book.
Many thanks again.

Sorry, but 2 new problems...
When I run outlook now, only 1 Reminder of 12 saved reminders appears... but new reminders come through.
-I googled and found "outlook.exe /cleanreminders" but that did not work
-I tried Repair Office 2010, but "error 1303. setup cannot access the folder c:\program files..."
-I googled and found a MS recommendation, something to do with subinasl.exe.
-When I try to run Office Repair, no error message now, but nothing happens at all.
ie no repair done, just back to Control Panel screen.
So 2 problems ie only 1 saved reminder in Outlook, and Office Repair doesn't do anything.
Any suggestions?

It is impossible to guess what you have done. Re-installing rarely achieves anything useful. Have you installed (if not included in your media) the updates to SP2?
Why not simply recreate the reminders?

Default Outlook 2010 problem on new 64-bit PC

Hi Graham,
Thanks for your help.
True I can manually enter my lost reminders, just hoping there was some way to extract them - no worries.
I tried SP2 but got a message saying it would not help.
I'm not sure what I did wrong to cause these problems, especially since it is brand new PC with Win10 and 64-bit (never had 64-bit before) and all I did was install Office, and transfer over files and install Trend Micro. It is a pity I can't ever use Office Repair or Uninstall, but as you say neither are particularly effect.
Regards, Sid

When using Safe Mode with MS Word, a slight improvement, ie a 50% cut in the error
"There is insufficient memory or disk space. Word cannot display the requested font."
but still get error.

Not sure how Safe Mode helps in Outlook. Graham has already helped
