Default Address book/contacts list

I can't get Outlook to let me view the address book; it gives me an error
message that "the address book could not be displayed" and "the contacts
folder associated with this address list could not be opened." When I
attempt to change the "shared" properties, those fields are ghosted.

Post your Outlook version and the steps you used to corrupt your Outlook
Address Book.

Russ,

I'm having the very same problem. I'm running Outlook 2003. In case it
matters, I have just upgraded my machine, and I copied the whole PST file
from the old machine to the new one. All my contacts show when I click on
the Contacts tab, but when I try to address an e-mail, they're not there.

All help appreciated!

How did you migrate your data? Just copying a PST file will not enable
Outlook to use it. Even worse, if you overwrote another PST file when you
copied it, you have corrupted your profile.

Default Dropping in PST file

I can handle this one. This is something I do regularly, and ran into that problem.
When Outlook is closed and you've dropped in the PST file (must rename the existing) You will notice the contact won't pull up when you try to add one to an email.

Tools>Options>email accounts> view/change existing directory. Delete what ever addressbook you have working currently.
Restart Outlook
Add Address book>Additional Address book>Outlook address book.

Thats all it should take.

If possible do a PST export from your old email then import "from another program or file" and select PST.
