Default Contacting server for information

Over the last couple of weeks, for no reason, I get a message pop up on my screen when I try to open an email. There's no pattern to it, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't ..... even on emails that i've already read. The annoying thing is that it stays there and I can't do anything at all until I get rid of it. The only way to do that is Task manager / end process, then I can go back into Outlook ...... but nearly all the time, it does it again.

Once it happens, I cannot get onto the internet with Firefox, Google etc without restarting the computer. After I've done it 10 times in half an hour - it gets annoying.

Any ideas .... PLEASE ?
