Default changing default program from works to word to open attachments

Hello: I have just purchased a new computer which came preloaded with MS Works. I was using that with Outlook 2003 and had no problems. I have recently upgraded to Office Professional 2007 and uninstalled the works. When I use Outlook and try to open an attachment with .doc it tells me the "application not found." I assume that it is still looking for works but I can't seem to figure out how to change it to word. I can save the attachment and then open with word without any problems. Thanks for any help.
