Default "Unpack notebook" causes multiple versions

A little help please! I'm unsure why I need to unpack my notebook on opening. I now have several versions of notebooks floating around. I just need the same notebook, preferably accessible from various locations.

My desktop
My company server

Can anyone explain this to me? Very basic stuff i'm sure.

I'm also getting this message now: "An error occurred while attempting to sync this section or notebook. (Error code: 0xE0000046).

How do I get this synching again?

Thanks
