Default Relative addresses in documents linking

Hi,

I have a document containing many links to excel spreadsheet's graphs, numbers, texts etc. I make this document every month, everytime I copy a folder with source xls and doc files, rename it and edit spreadsheet. When I open Word doc in new folder, links are automaticly refreshed and I have this document done (all done in Office 2003).
Since I shifted to Office 2007, I'd like to do the same, but links work differently. When I copy linked docx and xlsx to another folder, links from xlsx to docx are still linked to original file in old folder (another way they are link to specific file like C:\Documents and Settings\User\Documents\May_11\Document.docx).

Can anyone please help me to solve this problem out? Is there any way to set links between xlsx and docx relatively (like link to: //source.xls)?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Tom
When you create links to other objects in Microsoft Office the paths for those links remain static. If you move any of the objects to a different folder then the links will need resetting to the new path. There is no user method of creating relative links.
You could look at this link, however the cost may outweight the benefits: http://www.linkfixerplus.com/
Hope this helps.

Hi,

thank you for your quick reply. But I still don't get it why it was possible to do it in Office 2003 this way (I mean to copy source and text file to another folder and it still remained linked between itself).

Thanks

To see how to implement relative paths in Word, check out the solution I've posted at:
http://lounge.windowssecrets.com/ind...owtopic=670027

Do note that, for relative links to Excel workbooks, you'll need to macro-based implementation.
