Default Copies of Word Documents Becoming System Files?

Hi everyone,

I've encountered a strange problem happening with some of my word files. For some of my word documents on my hard drive and flash drive, strange copies are being made, which are classified as system files.

For example, a word file named "Module 7" has a system file version of it named "~$dule 7". Several of these files have these system file versions of them being made and it occurs randomly. These files are typically hidden and I when I try to access them, I get a message saying:

"the file '~$dule 7' cannot be opened because there are problems with its contents"

Since these corrupted versions of my word documents are considered system files, I get a message stating that deleting or editing system files can cause Windows to become inoperable.

This means that folders with these bizarro versions of my documents can't be moved or deleted. Does anyone have any insight to this issue?

Those appear to be temporary files. But if they were, you'd be able to delete them. Have you run a virus scan?

Default Temp files

I've scanned them and no viruses have come up. Like other temp files, these ones are unreadable by Word. However, unlike other temp files, these "temp" files don't disappear when I close the program or shut down windows. It seems like these are just temp files that have sort of "stuck around"

Any advice?

Hi
There was a similar post on this forum a few weeks ago on this issue. I have not searched for it but just wanted to give you a quick heads up. I will see if there is a positive response and get back to you unless you find it before I do.

Hi
Try this FREE piece of software:

http://www.repairmyword.com/

If this fails and you are happy to post a copy of one of the files I will take a look and see if I am able to do anything with it for you.
