Default Assign functions to F1, etc.

My HP laptop comes with presets for the function keys like help, brightness controls, LAN, etc. The keys don't work as they should in Excel, etc. Is there a way to reprogram these keys? Big irritation and there are a few shortcuts that can only be used with one of these keys -- that I know of.

If there's a fix, I hope it's not geek-centric since I am not. But I will try to follow instructions!

Thanks, Clare

Hi Clare
It may be better to tell us what you actually want to achieve in Excel as there may be easier ways to achieve what you want.
Look forward to your response.
Tony

Hi Tony, Thanks. I will have to go over that and see. These are shortcuts which are alluded to in my online classes at Lynda.com. They are supposed to be supported by Office - and probably are - but my PC has its own ideas. I'll get back to you on that. Cheers, Clare

Hi Clare
There are very many shortcut keys in Office but none that I am aware of that are assigned to Function Keys.
If you can provide some examples I will check them out for you.
Tony

Tx Tony. I am not in the middle of tutorials right now but I'll check it out next time I'm on. Not sure on which vids the info was given.
