I have a new CD, had tried installing twice but it gets so far and I get a very generic message that it's 'encountered an error during set up.' And that's it, no direction what to do.

Tried both options on set up, custom and upgrade, with same result--thanks!

hi Ckingfly,

It may be there's an error on the installation media, or your CD/DVD reader has a fault. You could try copying the installation media's contents to a temporary folder on your HDD or a USB drive and installing from there.

Thanks Paul, but that wasn't it. Copied it to a flash drive, tried to reinstall and it still didn't work. On top of it my current installation of Outlook 2003 is screwed up, so have to reinstall that. SO glad I didn't try this on my main computer first!
Will be contacting the vendor shortly.

Hi Ckingfly,

That suggests there's a fault with your PC, rather than with the installation media. Repairing your Office 2003 installation may be sufficient to fix the Outlook problem.
