Default Tons of trouble installing office 2010 (64 bit)

Hi. I'm going to college in a couple weeks, so I purchased a download version of microsoft office 2010. Since I bought a PC, not a mac, the older versions of office were, naturally, installed but you needed a key to use it. I paid these no mind, but once I got round to installing my office 2010 edition, I was informed that because these programs are 32 bit, I, for some reason, cannot install my new microsoft office. So, I went to the add/ remove programs bar to remove office 2007. I removed everything I could, but when I tried again, I found that I had to remove the service pack as well. So I went to uninstall patches, and I removed all but one, which i cannot uninstall, because it does not have an uninstall button. It is named, "update for microsoft office word 2007 (KB974631). I am at the end of my rope here, any help would be much obliged.

Thanks,
Eric.

One option is to call MS. They are responsible for the product.

Another thing is how did you uninstall patches? Did you go to Control Panel==>Uninstall programs? If so, you need no button to uninstall KB's. There are no buttons for anything you want to uninstall. There is one uniform button that gives you a choice.

Another thing you can try is to find the directory where that KB is located. You can do it by Start==>Search window. Find the file location and delete it. You have nothing to lose at this stage.

And yet another option is to find the sucker in the registry and delete the key. That would be probably the safest bet but you better be careful and save the registry before doing any surgery.
