Default This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it

Outllok: "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it" Office 2010 x64 on 7 x64. Had 2007 before, uninstalled, installed clean 2010. Previewers are installed but I get the message the same. Can preview: jpg and pdf Can NOT preview: excel, word, powerpoint or txt. Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem. Windows 7 x64, Office 2010 x64, can preview a ton of other items, just not Excel, Word, Powerpoint...

Very frustrating...

I am FED up, I went back to my 2007 installation, migrated ALL preferences to 2010 x86, yesss 32 bits.

Itīs unbelievable, MS does not have ready a LOT of their own stuff for 64bits.

Will stay on office 2010 x86 till MS gets it act ok and a lot of plugin developers also.

I am saying this in an effort to be helpful: I am running Office 2010, 64-bit version as is everyone at my office. We can all preview attached Office files in Outlook, but I don't recall that we could when we used Office 2007.

Hi ElQuia,

Try downloading the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel and PowerPoint file formats - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

With the combination of the Compatibility Pack and the previewer you already have, I believe you should be able to open the documents you get in your Outlook email.

Cheers,
Cassie

Cassie, already tried that. I tried everything I could about which I could find info. Maybe its because I had an previous 2007 installation, donīt know. But for example acrobat files previewer works ok, so do other standard previewers, jpg, txt, etc.
Anyway I decided to stick to x86 even if I am on windows 7 x64 (since beta ). There are a lot of plugins for excel and outlook that simply you can not find in x86 versions, including MS social connector (ejem ) for linkedin, etc.
Will wait some months and see how x64 evolves, and THEN test to THEN see if I migrate my organization or not.
Thanks anyway.

If you are trying to preview the files from within the Word application when clicking on the Office button > Open,

the preview function will not work.
The same is true when you try to preview an Excel file from within Excel 2007 by clicking on Office button > Open.

The preview function does not work.

However, you can preview the files by browsing directly to the folder in which the files are stored from Windows

Explorer i.e. if you have the files saved in the documents folder, you can open the Documents folder and you should

be able to preview the files.

Interestingly, you can preview Word files within Excel 2007 and Excel files within Word 2007!

This issue occurs only on Windows Vista. Works fine on Windows 7...

Hi Folks, is there any resolution to this one? I already had the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack installed and I'm on XP.
Any help appreciated, Frank

AFAIK, Microsoft has not changed its advice that 64-bit Office should only be used where the extra grunt of 64-bit Excel is required.
