Unhappy Word and Excel stopped working

While working in Word I get the message Microsoft word has stopped working and another window saying windows was troubleshooting the problem. Today it is happening with Excel.

I've tried and deleted ad-ins and also did a repair on the program but these solutions did not resolve the issue. Worked fine till about a week ago. Running on Vista and using the MS office home & student 2010 version. Other computer with same running on Microsoft 7 OK and other office programs (at least excel) this doesn't happen.

I did notice that there was a Microsoft security update pushed to my computer on the 11th which would coincide with when these issues started about. Thinking of going in and trying to delete the update if I can but don't know if this would help.

Can someone help, I'm going crazy with this.

Default Quick fix?

This is the kind of thing that I try to solve by re-installing. It doesn't take that long. It doesn't delete your work. So rather than trying to go through all sorts of settings and things, if I can fix it by re-installing, I do.

But if it's really the update that's causing it then I don't know how to help you.

Default Office 2010 stops working

I'm having the same problem, which started around the same time. It seems to be most prevalent when I try to copy something (it doesn't seem to matter whether this is via ctrl-c, or the 'copy' icon). It seems to affect Word & Excel regularly, Access occassionally and today is has started affecting Internet Explorer as well!

BTW: If it is the update from 11th, would a system restore back to before that date resolve the issue?

Hi Kevin I still have the issues and no solution yet. I did a restore several times but my restore won't work and get an error message when I try. Did you find out any viable solutions?

Hi folks,

Reinstalling Office rarely fixes anything that repairing it doesn't.

If indeed the problem results from a recent update and repairing Office doesn't fix things, a system restore to a prior date should resolve the issue.

Smile Ever Find A Solution??

Hi,

Did you ever find a solution to the Word / Excel has stopped working problem??

I have execatly the same issue with Vista and Office 2010 (Word & Excel) although slightly different in that I have two user accounts on my notebook and everything works perfectly on my account.

When my wife opens her account and then tries to use with either Word or Excel the program opens but then shortly after that a banner appears onscreen saying that the program has stopped working and shuts down!!!!

I'd be very interested to hear if you ever found a solution.

Cheers,

Default figure it out!!!!!

Guys -- I have been having this problem for over 1 year... new Dell XPS 15 laptop... WIndows 7.... I finally figured it out, and have to share it with you guys:

1) Word crashes ALL the time-- about 80 - 90%, when opening / closing documents, and when opening / closing Word.
"Word has stopped working..."

2) The COPY command copies a black blob oval when you try to PASTE. I installed CLIPX to see what was in the clipboard, and it showed the black blob oval AND a Bluetooth symbol

What was the problem?

Intel Bluetooth drivers

I installed the Intel Bluetooth drivers using:

1) Control Panel - Device Manager
AND
2) Control Panel > Programs & Features > Uninstall
AND
3) REGEDIT > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > software > microsoft > office > word > addins
and got rid of the btmoffice.connect stuff....

SO FAR NO MORE CRASHES and NO MORE COPYING strange characters!!!

I'm glad you got your problem sorted, but it's unlikely to be related to the problems described in this thread, particularly where one user account on a PC works fine and the other doesn't - dodgy bluetooth drivers (a notoriously common problem) are unlikely to affect only one account.

i never said this applies to just one account. this applies to the computer, anyone who uses it....

In any case, Microsoft Tech forums have backed up my account of what was causing the problem.

No-one said you did, but if you read the other posts in this thread you will see that MikeBr100, for example, had exactly that problem. In any event, the 'black blob oval' when pasting symptom you describe is not a symptom described by anyone else in this thread.
