Default Word 2016 labels

Creating name badges using mail merge. I select the label stock to use (Avery 25395). I set up the label content/format in the top left label field. Then press update labels.

All the labels on the first sheet are for the first person on the excel data source file. The next page has the 11th person on the excel file; unformatted & the rest of the page is blank. Third page is 21st person; unformatted & rest blank.

I've watched several utube tutorials & can't see what i'm doing wrong.

Since I do not know what you are doing, I can't tell you what you are doing wrong.

You could post a copy of your primary merge document here and someone will likely look at it. How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum.

Here are some references that may help.

As has been said, it’s not always easy to advise where someone is going wrong when potential helpers don’t know what you have done.
If you click the image below, you will see a short video of how I have created name labels and might help you out.
My source for the names is a created Address list (Excel .csv file) with the relevant names and addresses.
In my example, I have removed the addresses during the process as they are not needed (especially on a name label).

Labels should always be scrutinised before printing as long names or names with double barrel surnames may not always show correctly until the formatting is addressed.

Note: The names and address in my example are fictitious and don't actually exist.
