mail merge raffle ticket numbering problem
I have created a raffle ticket for my sons band 50/50 raffle and an excel file for the numbers to be generated. I can get the numbers generated on the tickets and stubs, but the number on the ticket do not match with the stub. They are one number off. Any ideas what I may have done wrong.

There are a number of issues, the most significant being that you have apparently set this up as a Letters merge, but the merge document has more than one page. It should have only one page and no Next record field in the last cell of that page.
You have also omitted a header row in your worksheet. Create a header row - call it 'Numbers' and change the merge fields to reflect that. The attached is a rebuilt version and it should merge correctly when you attach the data source (also attached).

Thanks Graham,
That is all I had wrong, multiple pages in the ticket and no header on the spreadsheet? Did you change the merge type? How did you get <<NUMBERS>> to be the place marker? Did you just manually edit the pre-generated place marker? I can see what you changed visually. I just can't see what was changed on the merge. I want to be able to recreate it, if I design another ticket. Thanks again. Edit: I copied and pasted the the first page of my original ticket into a new document and I see how you got the place marker to display <<NUMBERS>> now that I added the header field to my original spreadsheet. But I still have the mismatch. Last edited by Nightspear; 11-03-2016 at 04:16 AM. Reason: more information |

The merge was recreated using the elements from your table in a new table with the correct merge fields inserted. The error in yours probably relates to the nested tables confusing the merge.
You might find it simpler to have a one row table, with no 'Next Record' fields and change the merge type to Directory. The attached is your original with the fieldnames changed and all rows except the first and the NEXT field removed. As a directory it too merges as intended.
