Default change date into text in merged letters

I merge letters from Exacy Synergy Enterprise. If I want to put today's date in a letter (= DATE field) After I've merged, I would like that the date is converted into the prepared letters to text so this date will never updated when i open the letter again de next day or week This should be possible with a Quote field, but I do not get it done, any suggestions?

thnx anyway

Ok its very nice to know that it will work someday my only problem is now how to do this.

Because i've tried but the result is not ok.

I go to Insert/Tekst/Quick Parts/Field then select de field name 'quote', dan i have to fill in literal tekst. But '{QUOTE{DATE}}' is not working.

I am sorry but need a bit more help

grtz en many thnx

The instructions say quite clearly that the field codes "are all created in the mailmerge main document itself, via Ctrl-F9 (Cmd-F9 on a Mac); you can't simply type them or copy & paste them from this thread or another website." The instructions go on to say, "Nor is it practicable (for the most part) to add them via any of the standard Word dialogues." In other words, you can't do this via Insert|Quick Parts. Indeed, they aren't even mentioned as a possibility. Follow the instructions and you'll get the desired results.

Ok lot of thnx so far, glad you are there on the other site of the world! i do now understand what you mean.. and it works now. Only problem now is that this field is not updating it's self after merging. i made the template on 02 july but on my other computer i've change the system date of my computer to 03 july. When i merge the letter on that computer, the date field only change to 03 july when i manually update the field.

The field will update and convert to text when you execute the mailmerge. Your description suggests you were only previewing the merge.

No i did not, but i thinks its because of the fact that the document is merged in Exact Synergy. And it looks probably to the serverdate. So, tomorrow i'll check again, i think it's working then, i wil let you know, thnx for helping me. it's a small thing, but believe because of your help my customer will be very happy!

The DATE field in the mailmerge main document will get the date from whatever system it is saved on, not from the system holding the data source.
