Default Graph average monthly consumption

I purchase electricity at random intervals during the month.
I record: date purchased, unit balance on meter at time of purchase, units purchased.
How can I show on a graph my monthly consumption?
If I use the purchase dates on the X axis, the graph will be distorted!

Thanks in advance
