Default selecting a subset of rows from a spreadsheet

I have the following situation:-

I am given a spreadsheet with many rows
One of the fields is an ID number
I am selecting at random a subset of this data and returning a list of ID numbers for the rows I wish to use in the future

What is the easiest way for the compiler of the original set of data to produce a subset of this data with just the rows with the ID numbers I have given him ?
