Default Copying, Cutting and pasting

I am experiencing problems with the above actions in Excel: whenever I carry out one of these actions the resultant cell to which I move information doesn't always show that information correctly, if at all. Also, the cell/s from which I attempt to move information has a continuously moving dotted line around it and this doesn't stop until I save the file.

It used to be the case that when I clicked in the toolbar or moved to a new action, the dotted line would stop but even when I attempt to save the file I have a flickering portion of the spreadsheet showing that I'm attempting an action there, whereas I'm actually not. I would like to stop the flickering and the continual moving dotted lines and would appreciate any help in resolving this. Thank you. Steve
