Default Hours mins to decimal

I wish to charge for a job based on hours and minutes and £60 per hour.
I am doing this by:
column to insert hours and mins using [h]:mm format

column to convert that to decimal using *24 formula
column to convert that using *60 formula

I initially had problems for any time over 24 hours but seem to have solved that except it displays in formula bar as a date.
For example for 29 hours, 29:00 displays as 01/01/1900 05:00:00

can anyone help with display issue and also to suggest a quicker formula?
many thanks

With hours and minutes in A1:

=A1*24*60 (format as General).

Thank you. Although calculating correctly, 29 hours still displays as a date in formula bar.
