Drop-down menu in Excel, filling up the lists according to selection
Hello!
I would like to create a few tables in different sheets. Each table is predefined and has empty cells at the beginning. In the first sheet, there is a cell in which I can choose (drop-down menu) an option, and the rest of the tables will be filled up according to this selection. Basically, I need a quite way to organize construction elements of my building. So, if the building is made of wood, I choose wood in the first sheet, and the rest of the lists about other properties of this building is already filled in. How to do this in Excel? Of course, before doing anything, I will fill in all the necessary information which has to be filled in. Thanks! |

I will try to simplify the problem. So, let me say I have a drop-down menu, and an empty table with two cells. When I choose A from the menu, the cells will be filled up with two A values. When I however choose B from the drop-down menu, the cells will take B values. So, the tables will change according to the selection from the drop-down menu.
Similar to this, if I have drop-down menu with two options: wood and steel, the table will be filled up according to the selection and show the requirements (load, fire safety details etc.) for each of the material. |

If you are looking for other options...
You could also use in the example xor posted... D3 =IFERROR(HLOOKUP($B$3,$K$3:$L$8,ROW(A2),0),"") |

Xoa, I asked you and thanks for the explanation. One more question: is there a way to change the word in a text instead a cell in the sheet? So, for example, I have some text, and according to the selection, I would like to change some words in it. It should match the text.

I am not quite sure I understand what you mean. Can you perhaps explain it another way?

Yes, I can. For example, there is a sentence in a text, which defines the material of wall. According to the selection, two options are possible.
Case 1: If you choose from the drop-down menu option "A": You must provide wooden beam. Case 2: If you choose from the drop-down menu option "B": You must provide steel beam. So, in the sentence only material changes, according to the selection you made. Same principle as for the cells, but now it is all about words in a text. |

I am still a bit in doubt if I have understood you correct, but take a look at both sheet 1 and Sheet2 and see if you can use any of it.

I want to change the word in text, not the cell. The thing with the cell you explained to me, and I managed to do it. However, the question was, is it possible to do it with text as well.
So, at the beginning, there is a text in the cell: You must provide steel beam. If I choose option B from the drop-down menu, I will have the text changed to: You must provide wooden beam. If I choose option A again, I will have the same sentence from beginning (steel). Only the word steel and wooden changes. Everything else stays the same. The principle is the same, I need to change something according to the selection. However, here I need to change the word in the text instead of cell. |

It may be due to the fact that English is not my mother tongue that I have so much trouble in understanding what you want. My apologies.
If you can show it in a copy of my above file exactly what you want then I will be happy to try to help. Otherwise I back out. |
