Default Where has File -> Exit gone in Excel (and office) 2013

Why have MS removed File -> Exit in Excel 2013? It was a simple and easy way to close all spreadsheets.

I notice you can add an 'exit' function to the quick access toolbar, but it's not as easy as File -> Exit. Also, if this feature has been removed, why does Alt + F + X still work?

What are MS playing at? What other 'hidden' functions have they removed, but which still respond to keyboard shortcuts? Seriously, I'd love it if someone could explain the logical basis to this ridiculous decision! Thanks

Hi
why not ask MS directly?

How is an Exit button on the QAT harder than File - Exit?

File -> Exit was a well known, well used convention. Now some users are left scratching their heads. Why change it? Why break with convention? What benefits does its removal confer?

Taking a convention and breaking it, for no good reason, is surely the epitome of lousy UI design. And my question remains: why does Alt F then X still work? Why would they elect to remove a button but maintain the key shortcuts?

I repeat: what were they playing at?!?!?

Well, considering that the response to all the complaints when the Ribbon was first introduced was that it was based on customer metrics, I assume the same would apply here. Indeed, I have to admit to having been a very rare user of File - Exit in Excel - I tended to click the application X until they broke that functionality. Now I shift+click it, Alt+f4 or use an Exit button on the QAT.

But, as Pecoflyer said, if you really want to know what someone was thinking, you have to ask them. Although I have no idea how you would contact the right person.

I'm merely pointing out what a ridiculous decision it was my MS. Are they going to remove File -> Open next?

And why leave Alt + F, X ? When you press Alt + F you see the menu annotated with all the shortcut letters. X is not among them, and yet if you press it it exits. How many more legacy, hidden shortcuts are there? That's sloppy programming if you're asking me.

That was a deliberate decision - all the old keyboard shortcuts should still work.
