Default Excel colums are wrong way around

when I now open up a new workbook in Excel the A column is now at the extreme right with B to its left etc instead of the norm of A, B C flowing right to left across the page.

I've also notice that all incoming and going mail messages in outlook are right aligned.

does anyone have any ideas as to what has occurred to cause this?

Sounds like the disposition of sheets using Arabic language. I don't know why though.
