Default Data validation using conditional parameters in Excel table

Using Excel 2010

I have a spreadsheet that has a table containing a list of tools purchased from several different vendors. I've attached a screenshot:

There is another worksheet in the file where I am tracking the receiving of the different tools. Column C of the other worksheet contains the Vendor Name and Column D will contain the Item Description.

What I'm trying to accomplish is setting up Column D to only display the Item Descriptions of the tools where the Vendor Name in the table (see screenshot) matches the Vendor Name in Column C. In other words, if I enter Allegheny Tool Supply in Column C, I only want to display the Item Description values in Column D for the records where Allegheny Tool Supply is the Vendor Name in the table.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks very much!
Doug

This should work for you. I have attached a sample of what I worked up. The top left table is your list of Vendors. It's easiest if you keep them to one word, but the link shows a work around.

To the right are the lists of tools from each vendor. Below that is the data validation. There's a drop down for Vendor. Once a vendor is specified, the dropdown for that vendor's tools is enabled.

See if that will get you started and let me know if you need further help.

That seems to be working. I have quite a few of those types of validations to do in this spreadsheet, but so far everything has gone well.

Thanks SOOO much for your help!!
