Default Shared file locked for editing?

Hi I am using a shared file with 12 other people and sometimes the file says that the sheet is locked for editing, but that shouldn't happen with a shared file. Why is it locked?

Hi Thank you for responding. Yes, but what is the point of a shared file if you can't have multiple people working on it at the same time? I thought that was the reason for the Shared distinction.

Depends what type of sharing you are using?

Are you just using the file from a shared drive or directory on your network or have you used the Share Workbook function within Excel itself?

When it says the file is locked for editing, does it indicate which user has locked the file?

Hi Thank you for responding. We are using the Share Workbook function in Excel and saving the file on a local server. When the message popped up it did not say who was using the file. We have not experienced the problem in a few days and the problem has seemed to work itself out which is frustrating, because we don't know what we did wrong or what we did to fix it. Have you experienced this problem before?
