Default Work book freeze problem

Office '10

The following example is a persistent problem.

I'm in a spreadsheet that has text in the various lines of column B.

I notice that some of the cell's text is not displaying correctly. I cursor over a cell that does display correctly and one that does not. The problem is apparent--the correct cells are left aligned (per the paragraph icon at the ribbon) and incorrect cells are center aligned (per the paragraph icon at the ribbon).

I click in the cell that is center aligned and when I attempt to click on the left align paragraph icon the cursor will not move the highlighted center aligned icon. So effectively, while in the cell that is center aligned, you cannot unselect the center icon to choose a different alignment icon.

If I close and reopen the spreadsheet, the problem resolves.

Similarly (actually the primary example of this freezing condition) is attempting to File Save As.

I attempt to mouse to File but the mouse will not go to the File tab. I have to 'x' out of Excel, reopen the file and then I can File Save As.

Any suggestions?

Mark

Perhaps repair or re-install Office?
Do you have any problems with other applications ? Perhaps run a chkdsk /f first

Just Office--

and I should have thought of running the repair option against Office first.

Am I correct that MS removed the ability to save setting thus allowing for a reinstall settings when reinstalling the program?

Just a note to let you know I've given up trying to figure out a solution.

In hope of solving the problem once and for all, I installed Excel '07 on my wife's machine that is running '10.

Remarkably, the problem still exists. Periodically, when mousing up to the ribbon all of the ribbon is completely unresponsive to the mouse. If you minimize and then restore the page, the ribbon is responsive.

Now that we've duplicated the problem with 2 different version installs, the problem cannot be with the Excel module.

I do not see how the problem could be associated with the mouse since this is the only mouse related problem with any software.

So I guess this will just remain an annoying mystery.
