Default vlookup question

I am trying to match information from 2 columns. If the information matches, I want to have information from another column inserted into a cell. We have trying: lookup, match, find...with no luck. Is this possible?

Yes it is possible. Please post you excel spreadsheet so we can answer you questions specifically. As an overview you will need to join (concatenate) the 2 columns together and use that as your lookup value in a vlookup.

Default vlookup criteria

Could you please tell me exactly what you are trying to achieve i.e.
  • which columns you are trying to match
  • the data or column you want to return (insert into a cell)

Default vlookup - getting it to work

Hi Tony G. When using a vlookup the value you are looking up must be in the first column of the list (see attached). I've created a simple version and then a more complete version for you to look at. The second formula will display "not in list" if the vlookup cannot find an exact match.

Craig / Schereazada,
Thank you both for your help. The amount of time you saved me, about 5 days, was incredible. I had already invested about 5 long, boring, days. This formula condensed the time to 6 hours.
