Default Using macro 4.2 with El Capitan Macbook Pro

I have written thousands of words in Microsoft macro 4(.2)
They were generated on a Power mac G3, and run on a G4 and G5.

I now have a macbook pro using OS El Capitan. It came without Office.

What version of Office will run on this OS and allow me to run the macros (not necessarily to edit them).

You should be able to run Office 2004 macros on Office 2011 and the Mac versions of Office 2013 and 2016. Office 2016, though, has a lot of problems, so you'd probably want to steer clear of that for the time being. Office 2008 lacked macro support.

2008 did support the XLM macro language, just not VBA. It was a terrible version though.
