Hello Paul,

I am very sorry, but once again I have to ask you for help ...

I nearly finished the large wordfile you helped me providing a macro that helped me a lot, but since yesterday I encounter a severe problem: every time I try to open a wordfile I got following error message (repeated 3 times) :
'The function you are attempting to run contains macros or content that requires macro language support. When this software was installed, you (or your administrator) chose not to install support for macros or controls.'

I have been looking on google for several hours but unfortunately did not find the solution !...

Would it PLEASE be possible to help me once again to restore my macro function ?

Thanks a lot !

Presumably, someone has changed your macro security settings or changed the Office installation to remove macro support. See:

Hello Paul,
Thank you for the microsoft link; unfortunately that method did NOT resolve my problem, BUT... the good news is that I managed to recover; here is what I did:
- first, in order to check the Windows sytemfiles, I ran the well known commands Dism and SFC... everything was OK
- I reinstalled my Office...>>> the Macro error message disappeared but when I tried to import a new image I got another error message telling that acrotray.exe could not be found; I checked it in the Adobe directory and, indeed that file was missing !...
- I reinstalled my Adobe Acrobat DC >>> NO error anymore, BUT... the recorded macro in Word was 'gone'
- I created a new macro (with your script) and .... everything is working perfectly again as before !!!
I presume that all the problems were caused by running a few days ago a deep cleaning Ccleaner session >>> I will NEVER, never use that program again !

Thanks a lot for your extended help !

... if you don't mind I have a 'final' (?) question:
at several places in my document I see a message {XE...} (see attachment) and I don't know what that means nor how I can get rid of it ???

XE fields are what Word uses to create & maintain Index entries. Clicking on the symbol on the Ribbon's Home tab will toggle their visibility on/off.

Ok Paul, but is it possible to set these markings OFF (or remove them) in the options ?

No, there is no option for that. Deleting the XE fields will result in the corresponding Index entries being deleted.

Hello Paul,
Can you PLEASE help me again with another problem I encounter trying to print my docx-file ?
When I try to print 'All pages' or 'Current page' everything is fine, BUT when I choose 'Custom print' and I select some pages NOTHING comes out !... neither the option 'Print on Both Sides',does NOT work at all ...
This very strange and must be specific to my document (58 pages) as ALL the printing options work well with any other word document !!!
Do you have any idea what is happening and how I can resolve it ???
Thanks a lot !!!

That suggests your document has multiple sections, in which case you need to tell Word which sections and/or pages within sections to print. See: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ment-in-word-2. Although the article is quite old, the principles still apply.

That's what I found also and I tried it out....
p1s1-p4s1 >>> nothing comes out of the printer !!!

I found that if I select an aeria (multiple pages) the command 'Print selection' works, but without the pages numbering !!!

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Your attachment consists of just four pages, all in one Section (starting at page 56), so it's impossible to know what's happening with printing at the Section level.

At what page # does your original start? The attachment starts at page 56. If you want to print a range in a document whose page numbering starts at other than 1, you need to specify the applicable logical page ranges, not the actual ones.
