Default Using "draw"tab crashes word- safe mode fixes temporarily?

Hi,

I've got a brand-new Samsung Pro 9, 13 inch laptop that uses Microsoft Ink. The inking feature works fine in applications like one note 2016. When I tried to use the pen in both Word 2016 and PowerPoint 2016, the programs crash as soon as the "draw" tab is touched. If I open either program in safe mode, then close safe mode, Word, or PowerPoint will open normally with the inking feature working with no problem. It remains working after rebooting the computer and will continue to work for 24-36 hours. Then the problem starts again.

I'm at a loss to figure out what's going on.

I'd be appreciative of any suggestions.

Thanks!

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair)?

Since working in Safe mode seems OK, you may also have a rogue 3rd-party addin. You could try disabling all such addins, then re-enabling them one at a time until you find the culprit (which might take a while if Word continues to work for 24-36 hours). Once you identify the culprit, you can either uninstall or update it.

Default When I tried repair-it uninstalled!

Thank you for your suggestion. When I tried repair, the program uninstalled itself. (All of office 2016) I've reinstalled it now. Currently everything's working. I'll check it out over the next few days. Keep you posted.

Thanks again for your help. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

That's an extremely odd outcome. Either you chose the wrong option or there must have been something quite seriously wrong with your Office installation!

Update-the problem persists! I have again uninstalled, and reinstalled Office 2016, this time the 32-bit version. I've made sure that all add-ins are disabled. Again, as soon the "draw" tab is activated, the program crashes. Opening, and then closing in safe mode seems to temporarily "fix"the issue for approximately 24 hours. All other programs and systems seem to work fine on the computer. I'm getting to the very end of the return period for the computer. Any other suggestions?

Thanks again-Peter

Using an Adminstrative account, try running:
sfc /scannow
from the Command Prompt.

If that doesn't fix the problem, try removing Office completely (see Options 2 & 3 at https://support.office.com/en-us/art...c-2fdf5dbf61d8) then reinstalling. An ordinary uninstall leaves certain files & settings behind that a reinstall without complete removal will retain - and it's possible one of those is the culprit.

FWIW, there's an ongoing discussion at: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...c-8a6850b54101
Ignoring all the cut&paste/nonsense/off-topic posts in that thread, it seems there's an unresolved issue that affects multiple PCs on Office 2016.
