Default Making corporate word templates - problem with PNGs in Header/footer

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem designing a branded word doc template for my employer. Every time I put a PNG in the header/footer, it slows the document down and makes it a nightmare to use. Does anyone have a fix for this? I thought it might be the file size of the graphic I am placing in the header/footer (77.9KB). Could this be the issue as it is being repeated on every page throughout the 10 page document?

Thanks in advance!

Slows it down in what way? I have just created a 600 page document with an even larger PNG graphic in the header and normal navigation through the document is no more onerous than with a ten page document.

What are you doing in the document that requires speed?

Hi Gmayor,

Thanks a lot for the reply!

I'm glad you are not experiencing the same problem - it gives me hope!

Essentially as soon as I insert the PNG, the document slows down so much that it is basically unusable.

I am inserting a PNG that covers the whole page of the doc (it has a banner at the top and bottom of the image; the doc text is therefore sitting above the PNG)

Please see the attached PNG (note: I have had to resize it to be able to attach. The version I am using is 2481 x 3508 - could this be having an effect on the navigation speed?).

Thanks,

Tom

I suspect that using the full page background image is the problem, and in any case it does not seem necessary as the image has a transparent background.

It would make more sense to split the graphics top and bottom and put the top bit in the header and the bottom bit in the footer as in the example attached.

It will look better if the two images are separated off the original before you shrunk it, but you should get the idea.

Dare I suggest that an even better approach would be to use pre-printed stationery?

Hi Gmayor,

Splitting the header and footer up worked! Thanks a lot for your help.

The only reason I thought it would be best to have it as an entire page is that one of my past employers hired an agency to do the same task and they did it like that - clearly they did not know what they were doing.

Pre-printed stationery is great however in this case, the word docs will be used online.

Thanks again,
