Default Missing Remove Picture Background option

Hi, I'm trying to clean up background of a jpg picture in Word 2016. Followed instructions from support.office.com, but there is no visible button for Remove Background. The rest of the options to edit picture are there.

I already double clicked image to get Picture Tools.
Please help.

Are you referring to the Remove Background command on the Picture Tools Format tab? Note that the command is only available if the document is saved in the most recent file format (*.docx).

Thank you for replying, yes that was the command missing.
I found the problem, it was my mistake for using an jpg picture. Remove Background picture tool works fine with gif format. Also, you can't drag an drop picture, it must be inserted into Word doc.
Solved!

I'm glad things are now working for you.

However, I'm surprised at your result, because the Remove Background command isn't missing on my system even if I insert a picture in JPG format.

You are right, it works with JPGs, the trick is you need to insert (no drag an drop)
Thanks

Thanks for the follow-up. For what it's worth, it has been reported earlier that Word may treat dragged and dropped pictures differently from inserted pictures. If I remember correctly, this hasn't been reproduced consistently, though.

Thumbs down The option is completely missing whatever the image!

The button is not even on my ribbon. In Word or Excel.
Doesnt appear for jpg, png, inline or top and bottom. How do I fix this?
MS Office small business 2007.
Do I need to activate something?

As previously discussed, the option is not available for images that have been dragged & dropped into a document.
