Question Images in Documents best practices

I am looking to all here for advice on inserting images into Word documents. We currently are printing from .pdf at 300 dpi, and we insert .png or .jpg files of CAD drawings, Screen captures, and we also create large format presentations of Maps and aerial photographs for exhibits. Is it best to look for drivers, photo conversion software, or print to .pdf at 600 dpi? Any suggestions?

At normal reading distances, very few people could pick out individual pixels in a 300dpi colour image on an A4/letter page, so I don't see why you'd want to go higher. Even with b/w line art, your printer's in-built image enhancements would smooth out any irregularities that might otherwise be noticed. If the images are for viewing on-screen, even 300dpi is more than would be displayed on a typical laptop with the page zoomed to 250% magnification!
