Default Images not bleeding in print and when saved as .pdf

I have a word doc that includes images I'd like to bleed to the edge of the document. The images have been inserted and sized so they extend to the edge of the page in the .doc, but when I print, there is a uniform quarter inch border around the page.

Also, when I save as a .pdf some pages show a thin white space at the edge of the page where the image should bleed. Any suggestions for how to lose the white space on the bleeds?

Thanks for any help.

Default Same issue in Publisher

As above. Have been unable to find anything anywhere that mentions the problem let alone a solution

That’s entirely down to your printer. Unless you set your printer to full bleed you will have the required paper handling margins.

In my case there has been no change in the printer set up. It's an A5 size plus 3mm bleed all round. Items/pictures placed on the page and positioned to fall into the bleed area 'shrink' so as not to bleed.

When in Print Layout view, or Print Preview, what Word will display is governed by the print capabilities that the print driver communicates. By default that is not full edge to edge printing. If your printer is capable of full edge to edge printing you will find a setting for that in Printer Properties, as this setting is usually related to photo printing.
